In a disaster ridden-world where every day could be your last, what would you sacrifice to survive?

From writer/director Michael Anthony Cain comes the short film REMAIN; a survival drama that takes place after the fall of civilization. The cast features Seattle native Eden Campbell, as well as Portland locals Amber Stonebraker and Jason Reynolds.

The story follows a naive young girl named Valerie (Campbell) and her mother Jean (Stonebraker) as they struggle to survive in a desolate new world. Their lives are both put in danger after a desperate stranger named Seth (Reynolds) steals their food. Left with nothing but the clothes on their backs, Valerie and Jean must fight to take back what is theirs, before it's too late.

REMAIN was first shown at Cinema 21 on June 18, 2016 as part of the Art Institute of Portland's Senior Screening.

On September 2, 2016, the film screened at the Laurelhurst Theater as part of the Portland Film Festival. On October 21, 2016, the film screened at the Liberty Theater as part of the Astoria International Film Festival. After some additional work on picture and sound, the finished version of the film was released online on December 17, 2016. Most recently, the film was screened at the Clinton Street Theater as part of a Portland Film Community event on July 22, 2018.

To commemorate the film’s five year anniversary, a Director’s Cut was released on March 17, 2021. This new and definitive cut is two minutes shorter than the original. It also features alternate footage, a new color grade, and redesigned credits.
